Biography

Jazz saxophonist Aaron Bennett crafts a sound that is both adventurous and melodic, blending elements of blues, bebop, and avant-garde.

He decided to dedicate his life to music at the age of 14 after hearing John Coltrane, hoping to one day give others the feeling he felt when hearing his music. This began a long journey that he continues on today.

 

His prolific career, like that of Coltrane’s has been one focused on jazz improvisation and exploration, reaching for new heights in every performance.

After earning his BA in music with an emphasis on classical saxophone performance, Aaron Bennett then earned an MFA a in Jazz performance where he studied with some of the greatest minds in Jazz including Charlie Haden, Wadada Leo Smith, Larry Koonse and Joe Labarbara…and in addition to his jazz training, he has also explored a diverse range of musical traditions from Bali, Java, Ghana, Japan, and India

Since graduating, he has had a busy career, making music with a wide variety of amazing musicians and bands from many genre’s including jazz, afro-beat, pop/rock, funk and many others, including working with the following; Wadada Leo Smith, Mykal Rose, Peter Kowald, John Butcher, Adam Lane, Aphrodesia, Lagos-Roots, The Rova Saxophone Quartet, William Hooker, Lisa Mezzacappa and Vijay Anderson .

 

Aaron has performed in clubs and festivals across the U.S. and abroad including recent appearances at the Monterey Jazz Festival, the San Francisco Jazz Festival, and the Novara Jazz Festival in Italy.

Today Bennett has been working with his new trio, which features Smith Dobson Jr. on drums and Dan Seamans on bass. The trio has already released two albums and has performed a number of dates including a recent performance at S.F. Jazz. The trio performs around the San Francisco bay area with plans to continue to share their music in locations across the globe.
